Self Storage Tips for Business Owners

If you are the owner of a small business, you might have items that you need to store long term at some point. You might be switching buildings and will be working remotely until your new office is ready. You will need to store your furniture until your new office is ready. You also might need to store product that is seasonally related until the season makes sense to start selling it again. Here are some tips for commercial self storage so that the process goes as smoothly as possible.

1. Decide if You Need Climate Control

The first thing that you want to do is decide if you are going to need climate control. Climate control is critical if you are going to be storing artwork due to the fact that the humidity levels could rise and cause damage to the artwork. It is also very important if you are storing computers or any other types of electronics because you could cause the interior pieces to rust out if the humidity levels rise too high. If you are storing anything that is made out of paper or canvas, or any electronics, you will need to pay extra for climate control. If you are just storing plastic furniture or cheap items that you don't care about, you can skip climate control storage units.

2. Decide How Frequently You Will Need Access to Certain Items

Before you start packing your items and placing them in the unit, you will need to decide how frequently you are going to need them. This will allow you to figure out if you need to buy plastic boxes that are easy to open and close or if you should stack items that you are going to need to retrieve often near the door.

3. Keep Track of What You're Storing

Finally, make sure that you keep track of exactly what you are putting into your storage unit and what quantity level. This is because you are eventually going to want to retrieve the items that you have stored. If you don't keep track of what you're storing, you might forget that you have something stored and waste money repurchasing that item. You also might not be able to find a particular item because you forgot that you stored it and will spend a lot of time looking for it. If you keep track of what you're storing, you won't have any of these issues.

Be sure that you update the lists every time that you add anything to the storage unit or remove anything from the unit.
